Despite their hi-viz jackets, the work of Biffa’s collection crew is sometimes unnoticed. We think it’s time they were celebrated for their hard work.
The collection crew play an essential part and contribute to Surrey having one of the highest recycling rates in the country, collecting over 7,700 tonnes of recycling and rubbish every week. In March, since national restrictions were introduced, they have collected around 800 tonnes more recycling and rubbish.
Despite this, they are sometimes verbally abused or put in danger by members of the public. This can happen when residents put incorrect or dangerous items in their bins or when vehicles pass too close to the crews or the collection vehicles.
Fortunately, there are many ways to help your collection crew:
- Make sure you know which items go in which bins.
- Drive slowly past the collection vehicles and give them lots of space.
- Thank your crew by giving them a wave in the morning, putting a note in your window or sticking a message to your bin.
