Reasons to object
[NPC PRESS RELEASE 08.17]
The following information may assist you to contribute to the TDC Consultation on the proposed building of a new Garden Village. There is a proposal to build up to 8000 new homes at Redhill Aerodrome.
- Developing Redhill Aerodrome (RA) does not provide any road infrastructure improvements within the existing Tandridge boundaries.
- The reliance of the proposed M23 link would actually take the new residents away from Tandridge. With the exception of Godstone (M25 Junction 6) the M23 Motorway does not connect to any locations within Tandridge.
- By its location Redhill Aerodrome is a cross border site (with Reigate and Banstead). This makes delivery of this site much more difficult.
- The purpose of the Green Belt at Redhill Aerodrome was tested at the 2014 Court of Appeal and found to be still valid. This means the development would be contrary to the statement made by Tandridge Council Leader Martin Fisher.
- It is an established Green Belt site that fulfils a strategic role in the prevention of coalescence (merging) of South Nutfield and Salfords/Whitebushes.
- It is a completely unsuitable location due to the rural roads surrounding it. These roads are already at capacity.
- Access to Redhill Aerodrome is 100% reliant on cars only.
- Redhill Aerodrome has no direct access to the rail network.
- It is a strategic employment site currently providing 450 direct and indirect jobs. These will be lost and any replacement jobs would not be available for many years.
- The M23 Smart Motorway works scheduled to be completed in 2020/2021 will delay the connection of any new junction at Redhill Aerodrome for a further 5 years. This alone makes Redhill Aerodrome an unviable option.
- TDC already recognise that a Garden Village at Redhill Aerodrome cannot be delivered within their specified local Plan time period (to 2033).
- Redhill Aerodrome currently fulfils a useful General Aviation function, providing pilot training and significant employment. It is in the national interest to maintain a network of operational Aerodromes.
- The Aerodrome houses the Emergency Air Ambulance Service and the Police National Air service. Both would be lost, which will disadvantage the area.
THE ABOVE ARE JUST A FEW REASONS WHY THIS SITE SHOULD BE DISCARDED.
